Computer Aided Pattern Design
by Don McCunn Changing Darts to SeamsThe point of darts terminate in the middle of the fabric. These darts can be changed to seams. A very common use of this technique is to create a Princess Seam in women's garments. This seam closely follows the contours of the body. When this seam is used in a man's vest as a decorative seam, I refer to it as a Side Front seam. This video shows how to add a Princess Seam to the front of the vest created in the Changing External Line class. The video also shows how to use the photo of the vest from that class to initiate the shape of the seam. One of the important principles this video illustrates is that the look of the Princess Seam is based on the Center Front pattern. The fit is adjusted using the Side Front pattern. |
