Each individual line, Group of lines, and shape is recorded in a Sudio file in a Layer arranged from top to bottom. When you are working with patterns and you select a line that is underneath another line or shape, only the top line or shape can be selected. To access the line(s) to change the other line(s) or shapes need to be moved to a lower layer. This is done with the functions shown above. To illustrate how to adjust lines and shapes this video used shapes.

The Business edition of the Studio software has more sophisticated functions for working with layers. But these functions are not necessary for working with patterns.
