Computer Aided Pattern Design
by Don McCunn Multi-Sized Mini-MesThese Mini-Mes provide a way of testing designs after they have been graded. They can be used to determine if a design is fairly fitted and should be graded to 6 or more sizes or whether it is a looser fit and will work with just small, medium, and large sizes. The Mini-Mes described here are size: 2X-Small, X-Small, Small, Medium, Large, and X-Large.
If the X-Small is used for Small and the X-Large is used for the Large then: ![]() Caveat: these Mini-Mes are the specific size and shape of real women and while they can be used to see what a given size is going to look like. They are not "standard" body shapes as described in RTW Fitting Issues. Just because a woman's measurements identify her size, not all women of a given size are going to fit into any design that is that size. In addition to the Mini-Mes which show the shape of the body, the measurements described in How to Make Sewing Patterns are included for each model that can be used to compare their measurements to the size charts and other bodies of the same size. ![]() The Zip files for the various Mini-Mes include two versions. One for a full length Mini-Me that does not include legs and one that does. The Mini-Mes without legs can be made from just poster board and tape as described in the "Making a Mini-Me" below. The Mini-Mes with legs require additional lamp parts as described in detail in Fashion & Costume Design in Quarter Scale. For a table of the required parts see Lamp-Parts. The files are arranged for the Portrait letter size cutting mat that can be used either with a print-and-cut system or copied onto full size shipping labels using a desktop printer.
