Scaling Patterns Down

Full-size patterns can be scaled to quarter scale and saved as a Studio file using a grid system with the grid marked in columns "A" to "D" and rows "1" to "4". The Full-Size Grid pages can be printed using the files below on either 8-1/2" by 11" Letterhead or A4 paper using two contrasting colors. The pattern to be scaled can then be taped to this full size grid.

Tracing paper is commonly sold in a 9" by 12" (22.9 by 30.5 cm) size. It can be trimmed down to the size of the Letterhead or A4 paper used for the grid. The column/row labels should be copied to each sheet of tracing paper. The pattern can then be copied onto the tracing paper for each section of the grid.

To transfer the pattern to the Studio program, open the appropriate Quarter-Scale Grid for either Letterhead or A4 paper and zoom to 400%. Hold the traced pattern up to the monitor aligning it to the appropriate grid on the computer monitor and copy the lines. After the pattern has been copied, the monitor can be restored to 100% to show the quarter scale patterns.
