Computer Aided Pattern Design
by Don McCunn Scaling LinesThe ability to scale is important for transforming patterns from quarter scale to full size and vice versa. It is also used to scale appendages for the Mini-Mes when creating a custom bespoke Mini-Me as described on pages 82 to 85 of Fashion & Costume Design in Quarter Scale. Below are the buttons to access the specifc Studio files for the appendages. Patterns can be scaled using a percentage of either the shape or length. For example when scaling the arm, the bicep dimension adjusts the complex shape of the top of the arm. The shape of the arm from the underarm down to the wrist is a cylinder so only the length needs to be adjusted. Scaling is done in the Transform Panel. It can be done by specifying a percentage or a specific dimension. When specifying a dimension, verify whether the proportions between the width and height are to be maintained by the Lock being closed or they can be set independently by the Lock being open. When scaling more than one line, they should be Grouped so the dimensions will be of the combined lines.
