Custom Colors

The Print and Cut equipment from Silhouette America can control what is to be printed and what is to be cut based on the color of a line. For these instructions the following colors are used.

  • Red ( #FF003F) - Lines to be cut.
  • Black (#000000) - Lines to be printed (aka Sketched).
  • Gray (#696969) - Lines to be neither cut or printed.
  • Green (#00BD5E) - Dart lines and sewing notches on fabric.
  • Purple (#693291) - Lines to be cut for Mini-Mes that include legs.
  • Blue (#1B7CB8) - Lines to be printed for Mini-Mes that include legs.
  • Brown (#917151) - Design lines on Master Patterns.

Each number represents a universally standard value that computers use for that specific color. The specific number for a color is important because the color black, #000000, is different from the color #000001. Both those colors probably look the same to the eye. But computers consider them different.

The procedure for controlling the print and cut equipment is greatly simplified by using a consistent color's number for each function. For example, both Red and Purple are used for the cut function. When you are cutting the poster board for a Mini-Me that does not include legs, only the Red needs to be turned on. For the Mini-Mes that includes legs described in Fashion & Costume Design in Quarter Scale both the Red and the Purple need to be turned on. The Custom Color Palette described here makes it easy to select the correct color for each function as you create patterns.
